Carers of those who have a diagnosis of personality disorder (PD) are often confused, anxious and fearful about what is happening in their lives, how to deal with the constant crises that arise and how best to support their loved one while taking care of themselves. This group can help by sharing experiences and suggesting better ways of coping.

“I joined the carers group at its inception and it has been a lifeline to me.  I was so shocked and worried at my daughter’s first hospital admission, following several suicide attempts, and the group gave me a safe place to outpour my grief about a subject that at the time I was unable to talk about to others due to stigma and embarrassment. Issues for those who support loved ones with emotional and mental health problems.

I have been a member of a support group for many years and have recently started facilitating support groups for both Emergence and Rethink Mental Illness. A chance meeting in my local Tesco store with someone whose son has personality difficulties prompted me to write down my thoughts about the issues that arise time and time again in those support groups. I hope that by sharing them it will help.
