Advertising for a Service User Researcher at SWLSTG

Evaluation project:

Identifying the impacts and benefits of an integrated Self-Management Programme for Long Term Conditions in Mental Health

Job Description

Title: Research Assistant (Service User Researcher) – PART TIME

Background

This evaluation project has been commissioned by South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLSTG) and The Health Foundation. SWLSTG is funded by The Health Foundation as one of 10 national pilot sites for new self-management programmes (SMPs) for long term conditions. SWLSTG is one of two sites developing SMPs for depression. An SMP is a short course co-facilitated by a lay-tutor that helps people to set goals and develop their own strategies to self-manage their condition. We have referred to this course as an integrated SMP because SWLSTG will also be training the health care professionals that usually work with the people attending the programme to support them in their self-management.

We will be evaluating the SMP as two new groups of people go through the programme. This will be a mixed methods evaluation. SMP participants will complete a number of standardised measures of mental health and psychosocial outcomes, as well as questionnaires about the services they use at the beginning of the programme, when it finishes and again six months later. We will also carry out one to one interviews and focus groups with SMP participants and the health care professionals trained as part of the programme.
