Creative Personalities projects are on the increase - we highlight five which are at various stages of development.
Essex: in partnership with Moulsham Mill, Chelmsford
This is a 10 week drama club suitable for anyone, regardless of experience, who identifies with personality disorder. The club aims to:
1. Use games and short improvisations to build a supportive, dynamic and structured environment.
2. Create a group identity and develop basic acting skills including: comedic timing; character exploration; exercises that encourage trust and the ability to take risks in a safe and containing manner.
3. Build a character and write a brief monologue
4. Create scripts to use as a basis for learning and practising performance techniques, weaving the solo pieces together to create a group piece of drama to be presented in some form of public showing in the final week.
This project resulted in some impressive outcomes including: increased self esteem; improvement in ability to trust; increased confidence to meet people and make friends; creative self expression; the learning of new skills, finding out ‘who we are’, a sense of ‘belonging’ and we had some fun!
Cambridge
Following a successful consultation event, the area of interest identified was photography. A local PD service user will be running a short series of photography workshops. Watch this space.
Hertfordshire/ Bedfordshire
Two consultation events were successfully run from which drama was identified as the key area of interest. A local service user has developed a service user support group in St Albans, ‘Beautiful disorganized‘, which Emergence is supporting with advice and creative input.
Suffolk
The Theatre Royal commissioned a writer to create and develop a new play that was informed by local service users.
Norfolk
A successful consultation event and input from the steering group identified Norfolk as a remote and isolated county with few creative opportunities for people who identify with PD. Therefore, a regional art postcard design competition and campaign was launched in October 10. Deadline for entries is in February 2011.
